Description
The Vulkan LR 20 is a single-stage in-line fin pressure regulator designed for technical gas pipeline systems where higher flow rates at 0–20 bar outlet pressure are required. The fin design increases the external surface area of the regulator body, improving heat exchange with the surrounding air and reducing the temperature drop from Joule-Thomson decompression at high continuous flow — allowing sustained high-flow operation without the frosting and pressure drop issues that affect compact regulators at their flow limits.
With up to 160 Nm³/h at 20 bar from 40 bar inlet, the LR 20 delivers more than double the flow capacity of the standard L 20 at the same pressure class. This makes it the correct choice for large distribution headers feeding multiple tapping points simultaneously, high-throughput process gas circuits and central gas supply lines where the L 20 flow capacity is insufficient.
The rubber diaphragm, polyamide and NBR seals and G 3/4 RH connections are the standard construction. Safety gauges are to ISO 5171. The leakage rate of 1 × 10⁻⁶ mbar l/s confirms helium-leak-proof assembly. For oxygen service, the diaphragm execution uses a vanadium steel (VA) material for compatibility with oxidising media.
The LR 20 is part of the Vulkan LR-class fin regulator range. For the same pressure class with enhanced stability under variable demand, the double-stage LR 20 configuration can be considered. For higher outlet pressure at the same high-flow fin regulator performance level, the LR 40 and LR 60 provide the natural extension.
Key Advantages
- Fin regulator design provides up to 160 Nm³/h at 20 bar — more than double the standard L 20 flow.
- Improved thermal performance under high continuous flow reduces frosting risk compared to compact designs.
- Single-stage with 40 bar inlet for high-throughput pipeline headers and multi-point tapping systems.
- Rubber diaphragm with VA execution for oxygen service.
- G 3/4 RH connections for industrial pipeline integration.
- Safety gauges according to ISO 5171; helium-leak-proof with 1 × 10⁻⁶ mbar l/s.
- Available for oxygen, CO₂/argon, helium, nitrogen, hydrogen and compressed air.
Food-Gas / Compliance Positioning
This regulator can be positioned for food-gas projects when ordered with the appropriate wetted materials, elastomers, cleanliness level and documentation package. Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 defines the basic requirement that materials in contact with food must not transfer substances in quantities that could endanger health or unacceptably change the composition or organoleptic properties of food. Regulation (EC) No 2023/2006 adds GMP requirements for controlled manufacturing processes. In Germany, LFGB is part of the legal framework used for control of food-contact materials and articles.
